In 2013, two high school friends, Phil Shealy and Andy Crago, realized they wanted to start a clothing brand that embraced the fashion-forward culture of Columbus. So they took their interests of t-shirts, fashion and entrepreneurial aspirations to create a brand: Capital Roots Clothing Co.
How would you describe your product? I would describe Capital Roots Style as vintage inspired with a strong focus on typography and all things Ohio. Everything we do is designed and/or printed right here in Columbus, Ohio. With all original designs and high quality fabric, our tees are as stylish as they are comfortable.
What was your motivation to launch your own business? Our brand started three years ago by myself (Phil) and Andy. We have been friends since high school and have always been into t-shirts and fashion. We have always talked about starting a brand, so after college we thought it was time to give it a shot. With my design background and Andy's business acumen, it was a perfect fit.
What inspires you? Most of my inspiration comes from vintage typography, especially found on old signs, advertisements, and even on old buildings. We are both inspired a lot by sports, especially Ohio teams, even though they aren't the easiest to watch!
What other locally made products do you like? There are a ton of locally made products out there so it's hard for us to choose one, but I really like any of the handmade and/or wood products. I have a lot of respect for the brands that create everything by hand and it's awesome to see so many cool brands around Ohio.
