An Artistic View of German Village

July 20, 2017

German Village is a historic neighborhood just south of downtown that once comprised as much as a third of the city's entire population. In 1974 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

What's not to love about neighborhood composed mostly of sturdy, red-brick homes with wrought iron fences along tree-lined, brick-paved streets.

The charm of the quaint homes, red-brick sidewalks, meticulous pocket gardens along with iconic landmarks such as the Book Loft and Schiller Park have inspired artists to capture the community's colorful landscape.

New to State & Third are the artworks pictured above, including a colorful view of Third Street captured by Will Wong Yee and a German Village print by Studio Suburbia.

State & Third also carries prints by Jim Siemer, who paints watercolors, capturing the beauty and splendor of the area, including St. Mary's Church.

Thanks for shopping at State & Third and supporting local and US artists.
