An Artistic View of German Village

German Village is a historic neighborhood just south of downtown that once comprised as much as a third of the city's entire population. In 1974 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.


What's not to love about neighborhood composed mostly of sturdy, red-brick homes with wrought iron fences along tree-lined, brick-paved streets.


The charm of the quaint homes, red-brick sidewalks,meticulous pocket gardens along with iconic landmarks such as the Book Loft and Schiller Park have inspired artists to capture the community's colorful landscape.


New to State & Third are the artworks pictured above, including a colorful view of Third Street captured by Will Wong Yee and a German Village print by Studio Suburbia.


State & Third also carries prints by Jim Siemer, who paints watercolors, capturing the beauty and splendor of the area, including St. Mary's Church.
