Every year we are called to recognize the most important woman in all of our lives, mom. It’s challenging to give someone a token of gratitude that cannot actually compare to the years of love and support we have received. We, at State & Third, are in the business of finding the absolute perfect gift for all moms out there. Whether she is earthy, glam, preppy, or just a lover of all things hand and artisan made – we have her covered! Here are our (Becky, Michelle & Andrea’s) top picks, written by us:
Becky’s Picks:
I am SO in love with our Jill Rosenwald ceramics! The quality, craftsmanship, colors – all with a little 14k gold bling around the rim has me smitten. Handmade in Boston, MA and each piece is hand painted. We have a great variety of pieces here and we’ll have fresh flowers Friday (5/11) for all
the vases in the shop. Handmade ceramics and fresh flowers are always a safe bet for any momma!
Elemental Blue’s Mineral Bath and Kukui Oil combo are also a perfect gift duo – especially as we head into the warmer months.
The Mineral Bath dead sea salts have many benefits for the skin and beyond: treats eczema, psoriasis and skin inflammation. It also increases blood flow, which helps relieve sore and stiff muscles, lessens stress and anxiety while exfoliating the skin. Dead Sea salts open up the pores for deeper cleansing and encourages blood flow, eliminating toxins trapped in muscles. It also enables the skin to absorb moisturizers, like Kukui Oil – a natural moisturizer that has been used for centuries in Hawaii. It is produced by pressing oil from the kukui nut (or candlenut) tree, and it contains essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants that help to soothe dry skin and heal wounds.
How to use: Just sprinkle a few tablespoons in a warm bath and follow up with a moisturizer. Don’t have time to take a bath? Just sprinkle some on a wet wash cloth, exfoliate and see your skin shine!
These handmade photo blocks by Nicci Handmade are perfect for sitting on shelves, desks .. you name it! And for someone that has plaster walls, these are a much have! Have your picture printed, insert where the twine is and these are a PERFECT customized gift for mom!
Our Bracelet Bar by AimeeRe is an absolute treasure trove – literally, just about anything you can imagine for mom will be in these cute little muffin tins. You can add these charms to a necklace or bracelet, or just buy them on their own. Mix-match colors, metals, gems – the sky’s the limit!

Michelle’s Picks:
I love the new notepads from Donovan Designs. My mom is a list person for shopping and things to do, so I know she would appreciate having a bright and bold notepad for her lists.
My mom loves Re-Jen’s sari necklaces. One day I was visiting my mom and was wearing one of the sari necklaces. My mom, who is retired and doesn’t dress up much any more, loved how the necklace made plain jeans and t-shirt into a smart outfit. I ended up giving her the sari necklace as an early holiday gift. And now I plan to gift her with another Mother’s Day.
She also loves handmade natural soaps, like Elemental Blue. Her skin, like mine, is sensitive, and these soaps are very gentle cleaners. They have very mild fragrances and even help keep our skin soft.
Finally, the love knot bracelets by DeWitt Bead & Wire are such a simply and sweet way to share your affection with mom. DeWitt Bead & Wire has a number of these expandable bracelets in a variety of colors handmade with different beads. For $20 and up, they are a true value.
Andrea’s Picks:
The classic Mother’s Day gift (by request) in my family is help mulching the yard! Now that my siblings and I are grown up and out of the house, it’s harder to make this happen. Luckily though, State and Third has some beautiful gifts that are perfect for natural, strong, feminine moms like yours and mine! Here are some of my top picks!
1 – Objet Adapté Eyelet Scarf – Do you know that Becky, the owner of State & Third, has her own line of products that she and her mom team up to create? This lightweight scarf is one of their newest spring pieces and something I’ve loved since it came through the door! The feminine eyelets off of the blue and white stripes are such a classic combo that I know my mom would love! And what better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than supporting a mother-daughter duo like theirs!
2 – Gretel’s Handcrafted Soaps – Speaking of mother-daughter duos, there is another great one behind Gretel’s Handcrafted Soaps! Cathy makes this line of products incorporating plants from her daughter’s flower farm! The results are delicious, earthy scents that you just have to experience. Pick from classics like Rosemary Mint or seasonal specialities like Spring Hyacinth or Gardener’s Soap. You can’t go wrong with these!
3 – Adrienne George Berry Bowl – I almost don’t want to share this one of a kind piece because I know it will get snatched up, but this ceramic berry bowl made by local artist Adrienne George is too beautiful not to show you! It’s sure to bring some cheer to your momma’s kitchen and celebrate how special and one of a kind she is! And if you’re not the lucky one who gets this berry bowl, we carry a great selection of Adrienne’s one of a kind pieces, including some vases that would be perfect with flowers for Mother’s Day!
4 – Jack Gramman Glass Flowers – If you’re looking to upgrade your flower game for mothers day this year, the glass flowers J brought into the shop recently are the answer! They bring the cheer of flowers and won’t fade, so your mom can keep enjoying them!
5 – Glass Sky Jewelry’s Sun Gift Set – "You are my Sun. Warm, Bright, Giving." This set helps you say the words every mom deserves to hear! I actually hand make and solder this sterling silver jewelry here in Columbus. There are moon sets for your Cool, Calm, Reassuring moms and Horizon sets for your Strong, Steady, Forever moms too.
6 – Buckeye Beads Teething Necklace – I couldn’t finish my list without a bit of Ohio pride! This necklace is perfect for all the new mommas in your life. She gets to show her Buckeye spirit and entertain her little one too! And it is just a taste of all the adorable things we carry for kiddos!
7 – Champaign Paper Cards – No matter what gift you pick for your mom, don’t forget a card! I’m partial to Champaign Paper’s illustrations, but we have lots to choose from!
